General Tso's Chicken is a Chinese-American dish of fried chicken pieces that are breaded and tossed in a spicy sauce. This dish is very similar in style to sesame or orange chicken. But, like most Chinese dishes, what makes each dish unique is the sauce.

I understand that this is not southern Chinese food, and hoisin sauce (an ingredient of General Sauce) is often referred to as Chinese BBQ sauce. So......it's a stretch, but I call it a distant cousin of Southern BBQ Chicken!

General Tso's Chicken is a Chinese dish usually made with cubed chicken thighs that are fried and coated in a sweet, sour, hot and spicy sauce. The dish is named after a Chinese military leader in the Qing Dynasty.

General Tso, also called Tsau, is pronounced "So" with a long o. "So" is often mispronounced like wow.

Heat a large non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add 1 tablespoon oil (vegetable, olive, coconut oil). Add the chicken cubes and spread quickly in a single layer. Stir fry for about 3 minutes until the bottom is browned.

Flip each piece of chicken over with tongs. You can also stir at this point, then return the remaining unground bits. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes, or until the chicken is browned on the other side and no pink remains in the center.

1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce or siracha sauce, garlic cloves (sweet chili sauce crushed with a clove of garlic) [If you don't like it spicy, reduce this amount to 1 teaspoon and add first. ]

(optional) 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper or 3 or 4 small dried chilies (omit if you like it on the milder side) to still be spicy

Combine the first 7 ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. While the mixture is boiling, stir in the soy sauce and cornstarch. Add the soy sauce slurry to the boiling mixture and stir continuously for 1 minute.
