Glock Military Pistol - Former US Army officer explains why Glock 19X didn't make it to the finish line Sometimes second place isn't enough. The Glock 19X almost won the XM17 Modular Handgun System competition to replace the Beretta M9. Glock was so close that the famous Austrian arms manufacturer filed a complaint with the US government to protest the decision to award the contract to SIG Sauer. The government says SIG's entry-level military version of the P320 handgun is cheaper than Glock's offer. SIG Sauer also has an ammunition partnership with Winchester that Glock does not have. SIG submitted two models for testing, while Glock only submitted a full-size version.
If you had judged Glock based on the number of law enforcement agencies worldwide using one of Glock's models, the company would have won the prize. Glocks are so widespread in the United States alone that they are used by most police departments across the country. Approximately 65% of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies have adopted Glock pistols in some form or another. These include the FBI, Customs and Border Protection, and the Secret Service.
Glock Military Pistol
The Glock 19X fell out of the tender for the XM Modular Handgun System, but is also popular with civilians. As soon as it was introduced to the public in 2018, 100,000 pistols were sold in less than six months.
Glock Is Protesting The Army's Choice Of Sig Sauer For Its New Handgun
Although SIG won the case, the Glock is still widely used by the US military. In September 2021, the Army awarded Glock a five-year, $15 million contract for "a variety of firearms, spare magazines and parts." Glock is still widely used in various special forces.
Let's take a look at what makes the Glock 19X special and why it lost to the SIG Sauer M17/M18.
The Glock 19X is Glock's first "crossover" pistol, adding the full-size Glock 17 polymer frame to the smaller Glock 19 all-metal slide. The 19X has ambidextrous controls, and the company appreciates excellent accuracy thanks to its polygonal rifled barrel, the GLOCK Marksman Barrel. The nPVD anti-friction coating minimizes corrosion. It's more of a "coyote color" than the classic black that the Glock is famous for.
The Glock 19X comes standard with a 17-round magazine and can optionally be fitted with 19-, 24-, 31- or 33-round magazines. The Glock 19X has three different backstrap sizes (small, medium and large) to suit the shooter's hand size.

It weighs approximately 31 ounces. The barrel length is over 4 inches of hair and the overall length is 7.4 inches.
“Accuracy is good, as is natural for Glocks. Pinging a target at 25 yards isn't a problem, and groups get noticeably tight below 15 yards. But it can still be fairly accurate at longer ranges if your shot is good (or maybe that's my red dot). I shoot mostly from under 15 yards, so the 19X is great for breaking through concealed carry situations.”
After the Glock complained after losing the first competition, the Government Accountability Office conducted a head-to-head test between the Glock 19X and the Sig Sauer M17/18 to make a final decision.
The SIG model had excellent initial reliability. Ammunition is excellent. It is excellent in all three license rights categories and is excellent in all three aspects of manufacturing, including ammunition.

So the deciding factors were ammunition approval, price and ergonomics. SIG Sauer was wise to form an ammunition partnership with Winchester. And Glock received a silver medal, but as a consolation, a pistol that is still popular in the civilian market.

In its report, GAO cited SIG's ammunition permit and ammunition production/manufacturing plans, both listed as "pending" and Glock's proposals in both categories were "marginal" and "good." each..
There has been some work on the Army's XM17 Modular Pistol System competition, now concluded. It is to replace the long-lived Beretta M9, the standard sidearm for the US Army. First entering service in 1985, during the Regan era, the M9 was a smaller, larger capacity alternative to the much older M1911 pistol, the standard American sidearm since 1911.

Participants in the Army MHS competition included some of the world's most well-known firearms manufacturers, including Beretta, Smith & Wesson, FN Herstal, SIG Sauer and, of course, Glock, who provided M9 alternatives.
The Glock's entrant was an intriguing hybrid "crossover" pistol that combined the features of a large and small pistol platform. The Glock 19X combines a full-size polymer Glock 17 frame with a compact metal Glock 19 slide. The Glock 19X features Glock's GLOCK Marksman Barrel, a polygonal rifle barrel renowned for its lanyard loop, ambidextrous slide lever, 17 round magazine, and high accuracy. In short, it was a great pistol.
The quality of the Glock 19X package cannot be overstated. In less than six months since the Glock 19X was introduced to the civilian market, Glock has sold over 100,000 Glock 19X pistols. On paper and in terms of sales, the Glock 19X is a great pistol. Why didn't it win the Army's XM17 Modular Handgun System competition?
SIG Sauer ousted Glock and won the XM17 Modular Handgun System competition. Their two nominations are based on SIG Sauer's P320, a pistol that is respected and well-known in its own right. But aside from being available in standard and compact sizes, SIG's P320 isn't particularly different from the Glock 19X. Where Glock leads the way, however, is ammunition.
Are Glocks Reliable?
For the XM17 Modular Handgun System competition, SIG Sauer teamed up with Winchester, a company that supplies bulk ammunition of various calibers to the US military. As part of the SIG offering, Winchester also provided the M1152 Full Metal Jacket and M1153 Special Purpose Loads.
Unlike almost all other standard ball ammunition, Winchester's FMJ has a flat, rounded nose, which Winchester claims allows for more accurate shooting. special rate? It is essentially a jacketed hollow point that provides superior stopping power from an established ammunition manufacturer with a long history of supplying ammunition to the US military. It was a perfect combination.
Glock challenged the results of the MHS competition, but their protests were overruled by the United States. In its Auditor's Office "Partially Rejected, Partially Rejected" report, GAO cited SIG's ammunition licensing rights and ammunition production/manufacturing schedule, both listed as "pending", and Glock's bids in these two categories were each "minor". and was "good".
An argument could be made that Glock's 19X pistol is a better platform. But can ammo be used as part of the SIG Sauer product? It's unmatched. Glock's case hurt more. SIG Sauer's offer was over $100,000 cheaper.

's team had the opportunity to test the weapon in real life. We enjoyed it and here's an exclusive story. World premiere with the first video.
Let's start at the beginning. The 9mm GLOCK 19 MHS is a great pistol. It couldn't be otherwise, as it was the weapon selected as a finalist in the XM17 Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition, the US military's bid to replace the decades-old Beretta M9.
Ultimately, another gun, the SIG Sauer P320, was declared the winner. However, the decision was controversial and somewhat controversial, so we were thrilled and intrigued when the world's first medium, GLOCK, invited us to its headquarters in Deutsch-Wagram/Austria to test the G19 MHS.
Glock 19x — Premier Combat Masterpiece!
Handling the GLOCK 19 MHS is fairly straightforward for anyone who has already fired a GLOCK pistol.
Our first contact with the new pistol has been very positive. The GLOCK G19 MHS is aesthetically pleasing and has a "friendliness" to anyone who has held a GLOCK pistol before.
However, the closer I looked, the more differences I noticed when compared to other GLOCK pistols. Of course, it starts with color. Over the years, GLOCK has offered frames in Desert Tan, Olive Drab, Battle Field Green (BFG), Flat Dark Earth (FDE) and Gray colors. But for the first time ever, factory-made GLOCKs also have color slides. And the GLOCK 19 MHS's coyote-tan slide has a soft, almost golden tone that's even "sexy." However, the actual finishing process of the slides is currently an industry secret.
The GLOCK 19 MHS appears to merge the frame of the full-size G17 with the slide of the more compact G19. The grip height is the same as the G17, but the dust cover is definitely shorter.
