Marine Corps Benefit Tags - The Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC) launched the Recruit the Recruiter campaign earlier this month. The campaign provides greater incentives for Marines to volunteer and could have a significant impact on the Corps' future readiness.
"The Recruit the Recruiter campaign is designed to increase volunteerism for this important duty by educating and informing Marines and families about the many benefits of joining the Marine Corps Recruiter family," said Maj. Gen. Jason C. Bohm, commanding general of MCRC.

There are several benefits and incentives available to Marines who volunteer to serve during enlistment. Details of one of the most requested incentives were announced by the Marine Corps in MARADMIN 350/21 on July 8, 2021. The administrative release presents the pre-election incentive for recruiting volunteer recruiters for fiscal year 2023.

This incentive allows volunteers to select their preferred RS location as long as they complete the request during the volunteer window that began on July 7, 2021 and ends on December 31, 2021.
"Special duty assignments, such as recruiting duty, are critical to the advancement of the Marine Corps," said the artillery chief. Matthew Mahovich, Recruiting Supervisor. "I'm originally from Ohio, but traveling to a new place was important to me. Securing RS Tampa by nomination meant I was in a place of my choosing with friends and family."
RS promotions may warrant a Marine's order to a specific RS, but substation recruiting assignments are assigned by RS personnel and will be assigned during Basic Recruiter Training. To take advantage of this incentive, Marines are encouraged to volunteer as soon as possible. Recruiting stations that are no longer available will be marked as "restricted/closed" and volunteers will be notified via a Total Force Retention System (TFRS) message. These volunteers may have the opportunity to apply for new vacancies during the traditional "nomination process", according to MARADMIN. If the requested RS is not available, the program coordinators will contact volunteers and help them find an alternative RS of their choice.
"MCRC and MMEA [Marine Corps Manpower Management Enlisted Assignment Branch] worked closely on this effort to ensure that we not only increase MCRC's overall effectiveness in filling the Corps' ranks with the most talented individuals, but also free up hundreds of Marines for assignments .FMF that would otherwise be frozen in the HSST process, Bohm said.

As of today, only 35% of recruiters are volunteers. If the campaign is successful, increased recruitment of active duty volunteers will increase the Corps' readiness by reducing the annual requirement for the Headquarters Marine Corps Special Duty Screening Team (HSST). Approximately 7,000 career Marines annually, from corporal to gunnery sergeant, are removed from the designated inventory within five to 20 months of HSST processing.
As noted in the release, there are several other incentives and benefits for Marines who volunteer to become recruiters.
For example, Marines who volunteer before being identified by the HSST would be able to receive a larger monthly financial incentive than Marines who do not volunteer and are later selected for duty. Volunteers will be able to choose between three financial incentive options.
They can choose a monthly payment of $375 with a one-time bonus of $10,000; $150 monthly payout with $17,000 one-time bonus; or $653 monthly payment without bonus. However, those who are selected for recruitment have only two options. They will either receive a $375 monthly payment or a $150 monthly payment with a one-time bonus of $7,000.

In addition to fiscal incentives and geographic location choices, Marines who serve as recruiters have the opportunity to enhance their Marine Corps careers by increasing merit promotions, increasing competitiveness in promotion boards, and making an initial impact on the future of the Marine Corps.
Inquiries can be completed with the unit's career planners. Coordination instructions for career planners will be provided through TFRS as described in MARADMIN 350/21.
